Day 1-Depart for Lancaster, PA
Depart from Florence and travel to the Amish Lands of Pennsylvania, stopping for rest and lunch on your own along the way. Check into the Heritage Hotel for a 3 night stay and prepare for dinner at the hotel.
Day 2-Lancaster, PA
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a guided tour of the Amish Countryside, including stops at an Amish Craft Farm and bake shop. Your Amish Experience also includes Jacob’s Choice, a 35-minute, five-screen, special-effect film presentation (at the F/X Theatre) about the Amish. The emotional story is told through the everyday lives of the fictional Fisher Family, an Old Order Amish family which is accurately portrayed living and working in today’s world. Inside their “homestead”, you will learn of Amish traditions and practices as well as plain clothing and life without electricity. The Fisher One-Room School is attached to the house and filled with authentic desks and furnishings from an actual Amish school. You’ll learn the tradition of teaching eight grades in one room. From the pantry stocked full of freshly canned vegetables to the family’s plain clothes...from propane-powered lamps to air-compressor driven appliances...the Fisher Family Homestead truly provides insights into the complex riddles of a culture so very different from our own. Witness young Jacob’s struggle in choosing the Amish church, or leaving behind family and community for the allure of the modern world. Experience the horrendous religious persecution of their forefathers and take part in the perilous voyage to America, all magically heightened by wind, rain, smoke, fire, ghostly and other immersive special effects that thrill the senses. Jacob’s challenges with faith, tradition, and loved ones in a fast-changing world is a story that touches each of us, you and old, in a poignant and memorable way. More than any other Amish attraction, ”Jacob’s Choice” will leave you with an understanding of what it means to be Amish, and the ties that continue to bind the community together through the centuries. Later, you will enjoy lunch on your own at Kitchen Kettle Village in the town of Intercourse where you’ll have time to browse in the unique specialty shops displaying everything from local art to fine leather coats, quilts, accessories, and pottery. In mid-afternoon you will arrive at the Sight & Sound Theatre to see an original, live performance of Noah. With a catastrophic storm on its way, Noah is given a monumental task: build a boat big enough to save his family from a flood that will cover the entire earth! Returning for one season only, this landmark production takes you on board one of the world’s best-known voyages as live animals fill the stage and aisles. Set sail inside the enormous ark as this extraordinary story comes to life in this special 30th anniversary season! This evening you will enjoy a family style dinner at an Amish Homestead.
Day 3-Hershey, PA
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then travel to Hershey, PA to meet your guide for a tour of Hershey. Learn about Milton S. Hershey who founded the town and the Hershey Chocolate Company. After the tour, arrive at Hershey’s Chocolate World for a tram ride through a simulated chocolate factory where you will learn how Hershey’s chocolates are made. Lunch is on your own in the area. This afternoon you will return to Lancaster for a Buggy Ride Tour of the Amish countryside. Return to your hotel to freshen up before dinner.
